Another update on progress ref fundraising for the bandstand. This week we have received a cheque that was totally unexpected, it came from Swanage & Purbeck Rotary who had been asked to distribute a sum of money that Mr Reg and Mrs Peggy Griffiths left for the benefit of the people of Swanage. Reg was a Rotarian and also Mayor of Swanage During his time in office Reg instigated the re-forming of the Swanage Town Band and as a result of discussion it was decided to donate £1500 to the restoration of the bandstand for which we are very grateful. This gave us a new figure that I announced at the bandstand while the Wareham Whalers highlighted our efforts to restore the bandstand, I told the audience that we were £200 short of £65,000, and a supporter approached me and said he would make it up to £65,000 and when I got home the cheque was there waiting, and again I say THANK YOU ALL YOUVE ALL BEEN GREAT, but we are still pushing for the the rest. Our new total stands with the council money £115,000.

Please keep supporting us as we are well on schedule for March 2019 and on the day it reopens we will make it a day to remember, so watch this space.

On the 9th May FOSB had the pleasure to meet up with 5 of our local councillors, and several of our supporters at the bandstand and presented a cheque to the Town Mayor to the value of £50,000, and with council pledge of £50,000 gives us a total of £100,000. Since then our new total is £101,776.19p. It was a warm and friendly meeting of people who all want to see our bandstand restored, which is very exiting. We now know that it won't be up for Christmas as we had hoped, but fully expect it to be back up by Easter next year, unless we have a setback. The town has been fantastic, the town council have also been great, but we still must stay focused, we still need more funds. The specification for the work is still to be finalised, but then we go out for tender, and when estimates come in we can then apply for Heritage, Lottery funding.
Funds pledged now tops £49,000!
Latest news of progress by F.O.S.B. We now have pledges and donations up to £49,000 with another £50,000 from the town council, with £37,000 already banked, and feel confident that we will get the rest in as everyone has been so supportive of our campaign. Various groups have, and are continuing to raise funds for us as we still have a long way to go. The Town Council has had a report done on the condition of what is still standing, and it shows that most of that can be refurbished and saved, which is good news. Next step will be full estimates for the work, then we apply for help from Groups like Heritage, Lottery, Funding. We still need more prizes please for our Raffle that's to be drawn on Easter Monday. Another thing that's being done is Jam Jars at home to save your 20p coins for placing around the Bandstand, date to be announced. We are also asking you to donate small items to us as we are having a sale to add funds to the appeal, date and place to be announced. We are also asking for more donations please if anyone has a bit of spare cash. If you can help us please contact Alan Houghton.
